Audits / surveys

There are two VASGBI-approved audits/surveys we would like to invite you to take part in.

1) Coronary stent audit
This is a National audit (co-ordinated by Dr Malcolm P Gunning) looking at the issues that arise out of patients on antiplatelet therapy following coronary artery stenting prior to surgery. Data is being collected for patients who have coronary artery stents in situ undergoing vascular surgery (including EVARs). Data submission is straightforward and no patient-identifiable information is involved. Please submit data via the society's audit website.

2) Renal protection in patients undergoing EVARs
This is a simple online survey, put together by Dr S Sharma and Dr M Stoneham from Oxford, gathering views from different centres about strategies for renal protection. The survey only takes around three minutes to complete. Please follow this link to take the survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/WZPQ6JQ

Important message from the chairman

Following the plans for the Centralisation of Vascular Services nationally, the VASGBI committee has discussed the implications of this at length.

It was agreed that we would write to the AAGBI and the RCA Presidents to ask them their view on the emergence of Vascular Surgery as a Surgical Sub-specialty and the implications for anaesthesia, particularly in the light of the changes in the RCA curriculum and the CPD matrix.

Mark Stoneham wrote a letter on behalf of the VASGBI committee to the President of the AAGBI, Iain Wilson, and the RCA President, Peter Nightingale.
